12/6/2013 - Lady Roadrunners Take Conference Opener over Panola
Balanced Attack Leads to Big Win
Typically, having just one player reaching double figures in scoring on a team is the sure sign of a loss, but that wasn’t the case for the Angelina College Lady Roadrunners on Wednesday.
The Lady ‘Runners hit the floor running from the opening tip and got a balanced offensive attack in rolling over Panola College 81-61 in the conference opener for both teams at Shands Gymnasium.
Cree Atkinson led AC with 12 points, but she was the only Lady ‘Runner to score in double digits. Madi Robinson, Sandy Rawls, Jade Castille and Jimelliah Price had nine points each; and Yosha Watson added eight points. Cekret Davis’ night included four points, 10 rebounds and four assists; and Ceidra Coleman added six rebounds and four assists to lead AC to a win in its conference opener.
Panola’s Kierra Campbell led the Fillies with 15 points, followed by Lizzy Harrison with 13 and Shanica Baker with 11. However, the AC defense held the Fillies to 29.9 percent shooting from the field while forcing 22 Panola turnovers.
The Lady ‘Runners wasted no time in getting things rolling in conference play, jumping out to a 17-point lead in the game’s first 10 minutes. Price, Robinson and Rawls teamed up for a 16-3 AC run for a lead the Lady Roadrunners were never in danger of losing.
The Lady ‘Runners (5-5, 1-0) will host No. 1-ranked Trinity Valley College as part of a men/women doubleheader on Saturday. Game times at Shands Gymnasium are 4 and 6 p.m.
