ANGELINA COLLEGE
CHEER SQUAD AUDITIONS - Application

Students selected as members of the Angelina College Cheer Squad will be awarded scholarships in the amount of $600.00 a semester to apply toward the cost of tuition and fees for each semester. Cheer Squad members are also encouraged to apply for additional financial aid and scholarships. Each Cheer Squad member will be issued the necessary uniforms, and when necessary, provided with all travel, lodging and meal expenses for out of town games. All expenses for summer camp will be provided by Angelina College as well.

Please note the qualifications and audition requirements for Cheer Squad eligibility prior to application completion. The application and required documentation must be submitted by Friday, May 2, 2008. The Angelina College Cheer Squad Clinic and Auditions will be held Saturday, May 10, 2008 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Qualifications
Those participating in Cheer Squad auditions must be admitted to Angelina College prior to June 1. Students on disciplinary or scholastic probation are ineligible.

Each Cheer Squad member must maintain a course load of 12 hours or more during the fall and spring semesters.

Each Cheer Squad member must establish and maintain a cumulative grade point average in accordance with the scholastic requirements of the College as stated in the General Catalog.

Body weight of each member must be in proportion to height or less at the time of auditions.

Each Cheer Squad member must be prepared to attend practices, clinics and camp during the summer, participate in community service activities and accept all responsibilities of the position.

Benefits
Each Cheer Squad member will be awarded a $600.00 scholarship to apply toward the cost of tuition and fees for each participating semester.

The College will provide the necessary uniforms and supplies which will be maintained by the Cheer Squad Director.

All travel, lodging and meal expenses will be provided for out-of-town games when necessary.

Application/Documentation

Application must be legibly completed.

A current high school and/or college transcript must be provided with the application.

A recent photograph of passport quality must be attached to the application.

The application and required documentation must be submitted by the deadline to the address provided on the application.

Cheer Squad Clinic and Auditions
Auditions are closed to the general public, with only judges, candidates and audition staff allowed in the audition area.

All candidates must wear black dance pants and leotard or fitted tank top. No jewelry. Hair must be pulled back in a pony tail. Tennis shoes or cheer shoes.

Former squad members are required to audition each year.

Candidates will be evaluated and selected by a panel of judges based on ability while performing a group dance and a chant. Additionally, candidates will be judged on their demeanor, poise, enthusiasm, spirit, voice projection, jumps, sharpness and dance ability. Individual interview scores will be added to overall performance scores. If requested by the judges, call-backs will be conducted.

Candidates will select a number, which will indicate their audition performance and interview order sequentially.

Audition day schedule is as follows: All candidates report to the Angelina College Shands Activity Center promptly at 1:00 p.m. Candidates will be taught the group dance and a sideline chant which will be evaluated for the tryouts. Individual interviews of each candidate with the Cheer Squad Director and choreographer will begin at 3:00 p.m. with the auditions beginning immediately after the interviews. Depending on the number of candidates, the new squad should be selected between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m.

The names of new Cheer Squad members will be posted within one hour of the conclusion of the auditions.

Audition Requirements
Auditions for each candidate will include:

3 cheer leading jumps – one toe touch is mandatory.
Dance taught at the clinic
Sideline chant taught at the clinic
