A faculty learning community (FLC) is a group of trans-disciplinary
faculty and staff engaged in an active, collaborative, yearlong
program. The curriculum for the FLC is about enhancing teaching and
learning, and community building.
Evidence has shown that FLCs increase faculty interest in teaching
and learning and provide safety and support for faculty to
investigate, assess, and adopt new pedagogies.
To address the goals of the QEP, an FLC has been formulated to
attain a common understanding of the Paul/Elder model of critical
thinking. The year-long program will involve intensive training,
development of a critical thinking enhanced curriculum (CTEC), and
implementation of CTEC into selected courses. Members of the FLC
include:
FLC 1 – “The Pilots”
Alysa Bass – Health Careers Division
Edith Miller – Liberal Arts Division
Keith New – Business Division
Burlon Wilkerson – Fine Arts Division
FLC 2– “The Actors”
Occie Cluff – Business Division
Beckie Compton – Fine Arts Division
Marilyn Craig – Health Careers Division
Tom Dudley – Science and Mathematics Division
Debbie Jenke – Liberal Arts Division
Vicky Milstead – Technology/Workforce Division
