BRIAN MCCLAIN

Brian McClain graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business from Michigan State University. Brian majored in Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management.

Brian’s first 10 years were spent in corporate life. He began his career as a restaurant manager and advanced to Sr. Vice President of operations for Long John Silver, Inc. He was responsible for 1500 corporate and franchise operations and responsible for 10,000 employees. Brian left corporate life when he was 33 with the goal of starting his own company.

His first restaurant was a Grandy’s restaurant in Longview, Texas. Ten more restaurants were built over the next 7 years in East Texas, Arkansas and Shreveport, LA. Brian purchased most of the real estate and was responsible for developing the buildings. Experience in construction, partnership negotiation and structure, site selection and real-estate negotiation, market research, personnel policy and procedures, marketing and advertising were not only acquired but refined during this 20 year time period.

Brian merged his company with another franchise in 1990. The result was ownership in 26 Grandy’s and 41 Long John Silver restaurants. Brian sold his ownership in the company in 1995 but retained ownership of many real estate properties, which gave him experience in dealing with commercial leases and tenants.

Brian and his wife, Sandy, started a restaurant named “Paddy O’ Breen” in 1980. This restaurant specialized in stuffed baked potatoes. The concept grew to 4 locations before selling the small chain. This venture gave Brian experience in developing his own concept from start to finish.

Brian has been working as Director of the Angelina College SBDC since 1996. His experience with marketing, personnel, banking, real estate, legal and accounting bring a vast amount of experience to clients that visit the SBDC.
