Grimes scored first, taking a beautiful cross from Naddia Garcia to score from just outside the box in the game’s 9th minute. Sessions followed nine minutes later, blasting home a shot off her own deflection.

In the second half, Sessions was the beneficiary of another perfect setup, this time from Ashley Mora, and Sessions found the corner of the net in the 77th minute. Flowers blasted home a score from long range on what appeared to be a pass that eluded the Lions’ keeper. Burke capped AC’s scoring surge with yet another blast from long distance in the 85th minute.

The Lady Roadrunners (5-4, 2-1) host the No. 1-ranked Tyler College Lady Apaches on Sunday. The game was rescheduled from earlier when the game was suspended because of faulty lighting.

Sunday’s game time is 6 p.m. at Jase Magers Field on the Lufkin High School campus.

Roadrunners 4, Mountain View 3

The Roadrunners built a three-goal lead behind a hat trick from Luis Garcia – the first hat trick in program history – then had to hold on to hold off a desperate Lions team late in the match to squeeze out a 4-3 win on Saturday.

Garcia worked his way around two defenders to net his first goal in the 24th minute to give AC a 1-0 lead. Mountain View’s Victor Torres converted a penalty kick for the equalizer just three minutes later.

Then, with just 18 seconds remaining in the first half, Roadrunner Josue Salazar’s persistence paid off when a ball in the box found three headers, with Salazar finally sending the ball home for a 2-1 AC lead.

Garcia netted his second goal off a free kick in the 66th minute, adding his final score on a breakaway in front of an open net in the 76th minute.

The Roadrunners weren’t able to cruise to an easy finish despite the 4-1 lead. The Lions scored two goals in quick succession: Angel Mendoza scored on a penalty kick in the 82nd minute, and Joel Herrera followed with a sliding shot across the box not even a minute later.

The Lions then poured four more shots on goal in the match’s final two minutes, only to see AC defenders and keeper Riley Thornton hold off the challenges.

The Roadrunners (3-7, 2-6) will host Paris College on Wednesday as part of a women/men doubleheader at Jase Magers Field. The Lady ‘Runners play at 5 p.m., and the men follow at 7 p.m.
