Lady Roadrunner Basketball | Coaches and Staff


Head Coach Byron Coleman begins his eleventh year as head coach of the Lady Roadrunners’ basketball program – his 16th season overall– having recorded three straight 20-plus-win seasons from the 2006-2010 seasons. His 2009-2010 team eclipsed the program mark for wins in a season with 26, including Coleman’s 100th career win. He has coached the Region XIV Freshman of the Year in consecutive seasons, and has had several players selected for All-Region and All-Conference honors. Last season’s appearance in the conference tournament made it 10 straight trips for Coleman and the Lady Roadrunners.

Before assuming head coaching duties, Coleman spent seven years as the assistant coach for the Lady Roadrunners. As both an assistant and a head coach, Coleman has recruited numerous All-Region and All-Conference players, as well as having had two Academic All-Americans named during the same season in 2005-06. The 2004-05 team received Academic All-American honors after posting the requisite 3.0 team GPA. Coleman graduated from Angelina College in 2000 with an associate’s degree in general studies; from there, he earned a degree in Kinesiology from Stephen F. Austin University and a master’s degree in Human Sports and Performance from New Mexico Highlands University. He was a three-sport athlete at Diboll High School, competing in football, basketball and track. He is married to Tamula Coleman.

Assistant Coach Randy McKelvey in 2016-2017 begins his fifth year with the Lady Roadrunners, having served as a volunteer assistant for three years (2011-2014) previously. A Lufkin native and 1999 graduate of Lufkin High School, McKelvey earned his B.S. in Kinesiology from Stephen F. Austin State University, where he graduated in 2013. He earned his Master of Science degree in Sports Management from Southern New Hampshire University.

During McKelvey’s tenure, he has helped develop seven All-Conference players for the Angelina College women’s basketball team. Specializing in coaching the team’s guards, McKelvey helped lead the Lady Roadrunners to an 18-13 record and a berth in the conference tournament.

McKelvey and his wife Zephanie have three children: Z’Nya, Randy III and Kobe.

Gary Stallard Sports Information DirectorSports Information Director Gary Stallard, who also serves as Liberal Arts Instructor/Sports Information Director, begins his eleventh season with Angelina College. Following a career as a U.S. Marine, Stallard completed his bachelor’s degree at Stephen F. Austin University, where he majored in English and Journalism. For more than 15 years, he has worked as a sports writer/columnist/ photographer for the Lufkin Daily News; he continues to contribute free-lance articles on occasion. Stallard has won several awards for writing, including the Golden Hoops Award for basketball writing in 2003, Regional Sports Writer of the Year in 2004, and the Texas Press Association’s first-place award for column writing in 2007 and in 2014. He has also done basketball, football and baseball radio and live streaming play-by-play and color commentary for an ESPN affiliate. Currently Stallard serves as play-by-play broadcaster for AC basketball, baseball and softball games.

Prior to arriving at Angelina College, Stallard taught English at Lufkin High School for four years. He currently teaches Developmental Writing classes at AC. He and his wife Susan live in Lufkin.
