Medication Aide

Designed to provide certified nurse's aide or the non-licensed direct care staff person with the skill necessary to accurately and safely administer medications under the guidelines of the law. 

Prerequisites: 18 years old; HS diploma or GED certificate; Be able to read, write, speak, and understand English; Be free from communicable diseases; Be currently employed on the first official day of class in one of the following: Nursing Home Facility/Personal Care Home/ State School or the infirmary of a Prison System (this does not include the hospital or a home health agency).  The non-licensed direct care staff person must have at least 90 days of experience in this capacity within the last 12 month. 

Questions concerning current employment qualifications need to be directed to the Texas Department of Human Services Medication Aide Training Program at (512) 231-5827.  Most general questions can be answered at Angelina College Community Services Division at (936) 633-5206.  The state testing certification examination is $25.00 and is given at the conclusion of the course.   Textbook(s) must be purchased.

Seven clock hour seminar required annually of medication aides for continued certification. this course satisfies the requirement each Medication Aide must have each year for certification. Person arriving more than 5 minutes late willnot be accepted into the class and will need to reschedule for another class. Mail in registrations must be received in our office (2) weeks prior to course. NO REGISTRATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED AT THE DOOR. Students must be pre-registered. Class limited to 30 students.
