Angelina College holds three Police Academy classes each year, one day class during the spring semester, one day class during the fall semester, and one night class that begins during the spring semester and concludes at the end of the fall semester.
Day classes last 18-weeks and run from 7:30am to 6:30pm Monday through Friday. Night classes last 40-weeks and run from 6pm to 10pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays and from 5:30pm to 10pm on Tuesday and Thursdays.
Police Academy is a mentally and physically challenging training course. Employment is the goal. AC standards ensure cadets are successful on the state licensing examination and in attaining law enforcement employment. Applicants are encouraged to read and exercise daily to prepare for the rigors or training.
Police Academy tuition is $1,350.00. Additional expenses for uniforms and supplies is estimated at $700.00. Firearms, batons, and handcuffs are provided for cadet’s use during training. Financial Aid is available to cover tuition and uniform expenses to those that qualify.
Basic requirements to attend Police Academy include:
1) Be a U.S. Citizen
2) Have a High School Diploma or GED
3) Be 18 years or older (Note – to work as a law enforcement officer in Texas a person must be
21 years old, or be 18 years or older and have completed 60-hours college. AC recommends
applicants without any college to wait until within 6-months of turning 21 prior to applying)
4) Have a clean criminal history, to include the following:
-never been convicted of Family Violence offense,
-never been convicted of any Class A Misdemeanor,
-never been convicted of any Felony,
-not prohibited from possessing a firearm, ammunition, or operating a motor vehicle,
-not have been convicted of a Class B Misdemeanor in the last 10-years,
-if served in the U.S. Military, must not have been discharged for less than honorable conditions
A reading comprehension and physical fitness test must be successfully passed to register.
