LVN to RN Transition Information Sessions

Please call 936-633-5265 to register for one of the above dates. You need only register for one information session for both Jasper and Lufkin Transition classes.

Application Deadline 4th Monday in April

Must have completed all testing
• Accuplacer
• Dosage Calculations

Conditional notification of acceptance to class will be 2nd Friday in May, (May 9th, 2008)
 

LVN to ADN Transition Track:

This program is designed to facilitate the transition of the Licensed Vocational Nurse into the Associate Degree Nurse option.

Applicants must:

  • meet program admission requirements
  • be a graduate of a Texas vocational nursing program or out-of-state NLN accredited program
  • hold a valid Texas vocational nurse license in good standing.
  • have a minimum of one (1) year of work experience if not a graduate of AC's VN program.

After successful completion of the equivalent of two academic years, the student will receive the Associate of Applied Science degree and is eligible to apply for registered nurse licensure by examination.

Admission Criteria:
  1. Gain admission to the college.
  2. Pass all sections of the THEA test or be TSI complete.
    • If THEA exempt you must take Accuplacer.
  3. You must attend a mandatory information session to receive a nursing program application. Proof of the being TSI complete is required to attend a session.
  4. Submit completed application packet by the fourth Monday in April. Applications will not be accepted after this date.
  5. Pass the dosage calculations test (90% or better) by the posted date.
  6. Complete all prerequisite courses with a grade of "C" or better by end of spring semester, prior to beginning the program.
  7. All immunizations must be completed by April application deadline.
  8. TB test must be updated each year to remain in program.
  9. Drug test must be negative and background check clear to be fully accepted in the AC Nursing Program.

Acceptance into the program is limited and is based on cumulative GPA* and dosage calculations exam score.  Accepted applicants will be notified by letter at the end of each spring semester.

Affiliated Agencies: 

Students rotate through a variety of health care settings.  Rotations may include:

  • Woodland Heights Medical Center
  • Memorial Medical Center of ET
  • Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital
  • Nacogdoches Medical Center
  • Rusk State Hospital
  • Memorial Hospital System - Livingston

Students will also use clinics, nursing homes, physician offices and other agencies as appropriate.
