How are candidates selected for admission to the nursing program? 

Acceptance into the nursing program is based on completion of all admission criteria required for the desired track.   Refer to the appropriate web page for details.

What can I do to improve my chances for selection?

Follow all directions in the application process.

Meet established deadlines.

In the RN program, class selection is based on G.P.A. of prerequisite courses. (You may repeat a course only once to improve the grade. The last time it is taken will be the grade used for the G.P.A.)

Achieve the highest grade possible on Dosage Calculation Test.

How do I sign up to take the Dosage Calculations Examination for the Lufkin-ADN program? 

The dosage calculations examination can only be taken after successful completion of RNSG 1208 with a "C" or better.  The final exam in RNSG 1208 is the first chance to complete the dosage calculation.

VN Program - What is the HESI and how do I sign up to take the test? 

The HESI is a practical or vocational nursing aptitude test given for the Vocational Programs at Angelina College.  Testing appointments are scheduled after attending information sessions. The cost of the test is $40.00 payable to "Angelina College" by check or money order at the time of the test. The registration procedure will be given out at the information sessions.

How do I get the results of the HESI?  

The results of the HESI can be obtained immediately after the examination is completed.

How do I get the results of the Dosage Calculations Examination? 

Scores are available upon completion of the exam.  The exam is given by computer or using paper/pencils. A minimum score of 90% is required to pass the examination.  Test questions differ on each test but the format remains the same. Dosage calculation results are good for only two years.

What is the information session?  

The information session provides an overview of the nursing program. In the session the student will:

  • receive explanations for all admission

  • receive required information from the board of nursing on eligibility issues and declaratory order procedures

The information session allows time to answer specific questions attendees may have. The information session is part of the application process and must be attended to obtain application to the nursing program.

How do I sign up to attend the information session? 

To attend the Associate Degree Nursing Program session you must bring or mail proof of THEA scores or exemption status.

What are the approximate costs of the program?

Vocational Nursing Program: Approximate costs are $4500 -$5000, which include tuition, fees, uniforms, supplies, pre-admission testing, textbooks, and the licensure and testing application fees.

Associate Degree in Nursing: Approximate costs are $5700 - $6700, which include tuition, fees, uniforms, supplies, pre-admission testing, textbooks, and the licensure and testing application fees.
