POSITION: Part-Time Professional Tutor – Mathematics/Science – Grant Contingent Position


QUALIFICATIONS: Associate’s degree in mathematics or science and tutoring experience required. Bachelor’s degree and teacher certification preferred. Competency in basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office, required. Excellent English communication skills required. Must possess the ability to interact with a diverse student population.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The part-time professional tutor of mathematics and/or science is responsible for assisting the tutor center coordinator with all campus, online, and off-campus student tutoring activities. The duties include:

  • Working with and assisting peer tutors in math and science;
  • Providing tutoring in mathematics/science and other areas of expertise according to a posted schedule;
  • Supporting student use of Smarthinking, on-demand, online tutoring services;
  • Implementing within tutoring services the current knowledge of learning styles, study skills, and critical thinking;
  • Collaborating with instructors to determine the learning needs of students and the tutoring approach preferred by those instructors;
  • Maintaining materials needed by students;
  • Supervising the tutoring center in the center coordinator’s absence;
  • Working in partnership with the center coordinator to creatively plan and implement academic services within area of expertise;
  • Using TutorTrac software for tutor scheduling; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

CONTRACT & SALARY: $12 per hour. 19.5 hours per week as assigned by tutor center coordinator; some evening work may be required. Position involves summer hours. Proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States must be verified for successful candidate.
