ANNOUNCEMENT OF VACANCY

POSITION: Counselor

EMPLOYMENT DATE:
Early Spring 2008 - Search Extended

QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree in guidance and counseling, student personnel services or related area. Must have three years work experience in academic/career counseling or teaching at the secondary or post-secondary level. Preference will be given to community college experience. Demonstrated experience working with a team required. Must possess the ability to interact with a diverse student population. Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills are required.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
1. Counseling
 Assist students with academic advising, degree planning and schedule building
 Assess students with personal counseling needs and make referrals to appropriate community agencies
 Assist students with career counseling
 Assist with counseling and orientation-related duties at off campus teaching centers.
 Assist with advising and registration for concurrent (high school) students.

2. Maintenance of college and university transfer guides.
 Annual correspondence with colleges and universities where AC students are most likely to transfer to for the purpose of updating course equivalency guides.

3. Other duties
 Assist with the team teaching of the college’s study skills courses.
 Coordination of the student retention program.
 Assist with campus tours.
 Assist with testing services.
 Perform other duties as assigned.

CONTRACT & SALARY:
Twelve month contract. Assignment requires 40 hrs/week and some evening duty. Salary range $40,000-$42,000 commensurate with education and experience. Proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States must be verified for successful candidate.

SCHEDULE:
A letter of interest, completed application form, resume, and college transcripts are required for an applicant to be considered. Screening of qualified applicants will begin and continue until the position is filled. A classroom presentation will be required of all finalists for the position.
