Communications/Journalism

Angelina College offers journalism majors an opportunity to earn their first two years of college and receive an associate's degree before transferring to a university for a bachelor's degree.

During the time they are at Angelina College, they work on The Pacer, the college newspaper, and/or Inroads, the college magazine. This hands-on experience is so valuable as they practice the theory they have learned in their communications classes. This is also an opportunity to learn to meet deadlines and to practice ethical journalism procedures. These skills prepare students for entry-level jobs in media or public relations careers as writers, photographers or graphic designers.

While our main focus is print journalism, students with broadcast journalism career goals learn the fundamentals that are essential in their careers.

The following journalism classes are taught at Angelina College:
    Introduction to Reporting
    Editing & Layout
Introduction to Mass Communication & Public Relations
    Journalism Practicum
    Basic Photography

The required core curriculum includes:
    Communication (English & Speech)
    Mathematics & Science
    Humanities & Visual Performing Arts
Social & Behavioral Sciences (History, Government & Sociology or Psychology)
    Foreign Language or Electives
