LIBRARY COMPUTER USE POLICY
Purpose
The computer workstations of the A.C. Library are a vital resource for the students, faculty and staff of Angelina College. The computer use policies are designed to provide fair access to our patrons. The library workstations provide access to the internet, office productivity software, library printers and a variety of other resource programs which support the curriculum of the college. The computers are primarily provided to support class-related assignments and priority will be given to that purpose.
Eligibility
The computer workstations may be used by currently enrolled A.C. students and by A.C. faculty and staff members. A.C. students, faculty and staff do not have to check out a computer and may be seated at any open workstation. Per college policy, all students should have their college I.D. available should library staff request proof of enrollment. Community patrons are allowed to use the computers, but must present a current photo I.D. at the circulation desk before seating themselves at a workstation. Community patrons may be restricted to two one-hour, non-consecutive sessions per day or may be asked to relinquish a computer upon request of a library staff member if service conditions warrant. A.C. students, faculty and staff are given priority. Minors who are not A.C. students must be accompanied by a parent while using the computers.
General Usage and Limits
Computer equipment is provided for the use of the college community. Be civil and courteous to others wishing to use the library computing resources. Any problems with computers or other patrons should immediately be reported to library staff.
Patrons are responsible for all charges accrued using any computer resource. If you have problems or questions about printing please contact a staff member; do not continue to hit the print button. It is always wise to save your work before printing. Patrons may save to their own media or to the “My Documents” folder on the desktop. If you have trouble saving or printing, please ask a library staff member for help.
Time limits on workstations will be determined as needed. The library reserves the right to impose time and other usage limits in order to provide priority access for students working on class-related assignments. At times of peak usage users might be asked to relinquish a computer if the usage is not class-related.
Reservations
Computers may not be reserved by student or non-student patrons. Faculty may occasionally reserve computers for class-related work, but will not reserve them on a regular basis.
Behavior
Food and tobacco products are not allowed in the library and drinks must be in a secure, sealable container (no styrofoam cups, open cans, etc.). Keep drinks away from the computer keyboards. Users will be held accountable for damage to any equipment.
Users may not be paid or otherwise profit from the use of any college-provided computing resource or from any output produced using it. Be careful of copyright infringement. Duplicating other people’s text or graphics can get you into trouble, even if the work does not contain a written copyright notice.
Users are prohibited from altering any program, setting, or data. Never try to circumvent login procedures or change any settings on the computer. If you encounter an error in a program, please notify a librarian.
Never use any college-provided computing resource to view or transmit obscene or pornographic material or anything illegal, threatening or deliberately destructive - even a joke.
The user is personally responsible for his/her actions in accessing and utilizing the library’s computer resources. Usage is a privilege, not a right, and may be revoked if abused. All complaints will be investigated and disciplinary action taken. Repeated misuse of the workstations may result in usage being denied. |
