LIBRARY POLICIES

MISSION

The mission of the Angelina College Library is to provide resources and services which support the philosophy, mission statement and goals of Angelina College. The primary objective of the library is to support the instructional programs of the college. The secondary objective is to support the general information needs, the professional growth, the cultural development and the recreational activities of the college faculty, students and community.

CIRCULATION

YOU MUST HAVE YOUR I.D. CARD TO CHECK OUT LIBRARY MATERIAL. EACH STUDENT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL MATERIAL BORROWED ON HIS/HER LIBRARY CARD.

To check out library materials:

1. Bring the items you wish to check out to the main circulation desk.

2. Present your I.D. Card or driver’s license to the circulation attendant.

3. If your fine record is clear, and you have no overdue materials, the attendant will check out the materials to you.

4. The date due slip attached to the material indicates the last date an item may be turned in or renewed before it becomes overdue.

5. When you wish to renew material you should bring it to the main circulation desk and inquire about renewal. No renewals are made unless the material is brought to the library. No renewals on reserve materials.

(Non-student patrons under the age of 18 years may not normally check out materials.)

CHECKOUTS ARE LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

Reserve Materials - One (1) Video Three (3) Articles for making copies.

Reserve Books - Two (2) in library use One (1) out of the building.

Total circulations limited to Five (5). This does not include reserve materials.

Non-student borrowers must be 18 years of age or older. Parents are responsible for students still attending high school. Non-students may check out Five (5) books.

Newspapers, periodicals, and reference books are for library use only and may not be taken out of the library.

FINES: Books - .10 per day. Reserve material .50 per day. Audio recordings .50 per day. Fine maximum is $15.00 per item.

BOOK RETURNS: Books should be returned at the FIRST FLOOR CIRCULATION DESK or the LIBRARY BOOK DROP located on the outer wall to the left of the main entrance. Please return audio-visual materials INSIDE.

LOST MATERIALS: Users will be charged the price of replacement plus processing fee of $10.00 for all lost items. If lost materials are paid for and then found within one year, any amount above $25.00 will be refunded if the material is returned in good condition to the library. User must present receipt.

Faculty and staff members must have their I.D. Cards to check out materials. Faculty and staff may check out any materials. Books are checked out for 3 week periods. A-V materials are checked out for 1 - 7 day periods, depending on the item. Faculty and staff are responsible for materials and equipment checked out to them and will need to reimburse the library for non-returned and damaged materials based on replacement costs.

NON STUDENT BORROWERS RULES FOR THE ANGELINA COLLEGE LIBRARY

Usage privileges will be granted to anyone in Texas 18 years of age or above.

1. A Texas driver’s license and social security number must be presented.

2. The person signing the registration card is responsible for all materials, fines and fees incurred.

3. The library must be notified of a change of address for the household.

NO EATING, DRINKING, SMOKING, TOBACCO, OR CELL PHONE USAGE IS ALLOWED IN THE LIBRARY.

RESERVE MATERIALS

Faculty can place materials on reserve for specified periods by completing the reserve form for each title.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COLLECTION

The Professional Development Collection is maintained with current books and periodicals.

INTERLIBRARY LOAN

Faculty, staff and students may request materials from other libraries. Ask a library staff member when this service is desired.

LAMINATION, TRANSPARENCIES AND BINDING

These are provided at cost. Ask a library staff member.

BIBLIOGRAPHIC INSTRUCTION OF CLASSES

Faculty should schedule bibliographic instruction, class visits and use of the library classroom
well in advance
.

AUDIO-VISUAL EQUIPMENT

The library maintains a selection of A-V equipment. Faculty and staff should try to reserve this equipment well in advance.

STUDY ROOM POLICY

Study rooms are primarily for group usage.

1. Advance reservations may only be done by AC students.

2. Reservations must be in person using a valid AC student body card.

a. Groups having a reservation must still check in at the circulation desk.

b. Reservations will only be held for 30 minutes past reservation time.

3. Groups may stay over the time limit if no one wants the room.

4. After a 2 hour period, if another group wishes to use the room, the prior group must vacate immediately.

5. Non AC students may use the study rooms if no one else wants the room. However, if an AC group needs the room, the outside group must vacate immediately.

6. Advance reservations can only be for one week ahead of time.

7. No one may reserve the room on a continuing basis.

8. Single person usage is allowed if no group wants the room.

9. The 2nd floor is a quiet floor. Excessive noise by a group may result in that group being asked to leave.

10. Repeated misuse of the study rooms may result in usage being denied or disciplinary action taken.

Change up to $10.00 can be obtained at the circulation desk.

Checks will be accepted only for fines or lost materials.

Users are responsible for all pages copied from copy machines.

Telephones are for staff use only.

Children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult.

MEDICAL EMERGENCIES:

When a medical emergency arises, call the campus nurse at ext. 5298. If the nurse is not there, call on the emergency radio in the workroom of the library. As a final resort, call maintenance at ext. 5280.

 

 

COMPUTER USE POLICY

It is the policy of the Angelina College Library to support and promote the knowledge and use of electronic technology for students, faculty, staff, and administration to the extent possible within the financial resources of the institution. This policy recognizes that a major element of education is information transfer; and one of the essential components of information transfer is electronic technology, with all accompanying hardware, software, databases, networks, and support services.

Because of the dollar costs associated with the initiation and keeping current of electronic technology, the equitable allocation of resources, and the potential problems of institutional security and liability, the following policies are set forth to guide its use.

The electronic resources of Angelina College Library are made available to authorized persons in the College community to assist in the pursuit of educational and professional goals. The resources include all hardware, software, databases, and networks, including access to the Internet. Access and use of the resources are considered to be a privilege granted by the College, and unauthorized use, misuse, or abuse by any user will result in the appropriate disciplinary action. Angelina College reserves the right to extend, restrict, or forbid access to institutional electronic resources.

Access to the electronic resources owned or operated by AC imposes certain responsibilities and obligations and is granted subject to College policies and local, state, and federal law. Appropriate ethical standards are derived directly from standards of common sense and decency that apply to the use of any public resource. Appropriate ethical use will reflect academic honesty, show restraint in the consumption of shared resources, and will demonstrate respect for intellectual property, ownership of data, system security mechanisms, and the individual’s right to privacy.

Access to any electronic resource owned or operated by AC must be granted by the person who is responsible for the resource and authorized to grant access. Any attempt to access or to assist in the access of any of AC’s electronic resources without proper authorization is an express violation of this policy.

Specific conduct expressly forbidden by AC’s Computer Use Policy includes the following:

1. Copying College-owned or licensed software or data to another computer system for personal or external use without prior and authorized approval

2. Attempting to modify College-owned or licensed software or data without prior and authorized approval

3. Attempting to damage or disrupt the operation of college computing equipment and databases or the transmission of data communication

4. Using the electronic technology of AC for commercial and/or private proprietary purposes

5. Using the electronic technology of AC for the viewing or transmittal of obscene/pornographic material or material containing derogatory references to any individual or group based on the gender, age, race, ethnicity, or religion of that individual or group

6. Using the electronic technology of AC in any manner to intimidate, harass, or annoy another person

7. Using any portion of the electronic technology of AC to access non-College computing and information resources for the purposes of copying or modifying privately owned software/data without prior and authorized written approval or to damage/disrupt the operation of non-College electronic technology systems.

Persons found to be in violation of any of the above requirements and prohibitions are subject to AC disciplinary procedures that may include probation, suspension, expulsion from the College, termination, and/ or restitution of funds.

The use of external resources accessed via AC electronic technology resources is subject to the guideline of those external resources.

All uses of AC electronic technology resources is subject to federal and state regulations and laws, including but not limited to the following:

The Texas Computer Crimes Statute (Section l, Title 7, Chapter 33 of the Texas Penal Code); Federal Copyright Law, Title 17, Section 117; and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974

Federal and State Laws also regulate unauthorized access to computer facilities.

Non-student computer patrons are limited to two 1 hour (non-consecutive) sessions on all library computers except email computers.
Non-student patrons under the age of 18 may not normally use the computers.
Email computers are limited to 30 minute non-consecutive sessions.
Computer usage may be limited to one person per computer.
Users will be charged .05 per page for all pages printed.
