AC Young Democrats

We, as the members and supporters of the Democratic Party, seek to preserve an old and honored tradition as defenders of individual liberty and equal opportunity. We take great pride in our heritage as the Party of the People.

As members of this organization, we have realized the value of a fair and responsive government and the merits of an active citizenry. As Young Democrats, we recognize the need to actively participate in the political process and encourage all people to become informed and involved in public decision making. To this end, we promote social awareness, community involvement, and political activism as a means to achieve a more fair and just society.

The club is comprised mainly of students from Angelina College who strive to support and encourage political awareness and democratic ideals. Our mission is to improve our society through increasing participation and awareness of the people in the community.

Aside from our meetings, the Young Democrats are active in campaigns for Democratic candidates at the local, state, and federal levels. We participate in voter registration and various awareness efforts. However,
this Society also hopes to become a more prominent member of the campus community and not merely a political organization. We are members of all ages, races, religions, nationalities, and lifestyles. Young Democrats is dedicated to making our campus and community a better place to live and
work.

This organization was founded by Chad Allison and Katie Naranjo so that our youth could contribute to a more effective and informed democracy. The Democratic Party has always been faced with the challenge of identifying policy initiatives that will better America. But, aside from the policy questions of today, the time has come that we ask ourselves: Who should the democratic party stand for?

True, many of us may not be in a position to heavily influence discussions about the future of the democratic platform. However, as a group we possess the unique ability to become political activist through idealism, a fresh perspective, and a genuine desire to impact the world. It is apparent that whatever change occurs in the future -- or doesn’t occur -- is in the hands of this generation.
