ROADRUNNER ASSOCIATION HOLDING GUY DAVIS GOLF TOURNAMENT
The Angelina College Athletic Program has long had a
loyal fan base consisting of area sports fans, but now those local
Roadrunner enthusiasts are getting even more organized.
The newly formed Angelina Roadrunner Association – an extension of the
former Roadrunner Club – is seeking new members, and they’ve found a
unique way of finding those fans.
On Saturday, August 23rd, the Roadrunner Association will host the Guy
Davis Golf Tournament, a four-man scramble, at the Neches Pines Golf
Course in Diboll. All proceeds from the tournament will go to the
Roadrunner Association to help support AC athletics.
“The main purpose is to generate interest in our program and to get
more people involved,” AC head basketball coach Todd Neighbors said.
“We’re having a Calcutta party on Friday the 22nd, and everyone who
plays in the tournament automatically becomes a member of the
Roadrunner Association. Our overall goal is to boost membership and to
recognize the loyal followers we have of Angelina College.”
Along with the Calcutta scheduled for Friday, Aug. 22nd, the
tournament will feature several skills contests and prizes, including
a $10,000 hole-in-one prize sponsored by City Wide Directories; a
hole-in-one for a car sponsored by Loving Toyota; a long-drive contest
sponsored by Golf USA; and a putting contest.
Neighbors said the tournament is open to scratch golfers, duffers and
hackers, and that there’s still plenty of room for teams and
individuals looking to play the tournament and join the Association.
“We’re looking forward to having as many people as possible to show
their support and have a great time doing it,” Neighbors said.
