1/3/2007 - Angelina College Women over SWCC
The Angelina College Lady Roadrunners needed just one
game to knock off the holiday rust, storming back after Tuesday’s loss
to Hill College to hammer Southwest Christian’s Lady Rams 103-47
Wednesday in the final day of the McLennan Shootout.
Ty Felder led the charge with 23 points, 16 rebounds, five steals and
five assists. Sha’Tonya Mays added 21 points that included a 5-for-7
effort from three-point range. LaTesha Reddick (10 points, 7 boards)
and Avery Bess (9 points, 4 steals) also padded their season stats in
the win.
SWCC’s Chloe Bell was the only Lady Ram in double figures with 14
points.
“We had no intensity yesterday, but today we played hard from the jump
ball,” coach Ashley Walker said. “We executed much better, and we did
the things we have to do defensively to create scoring opportunities.”
Those defensive scoring opportunities came by the bucket loads: AC
forced 23 Lady Ram turnovers, leading to 16 Lady ‘Runner points off
the miscues. AC also won the board wars, out-rebounding SWCC 47-29 for
the game.
The Lady ‘Runners roared out of the gates with a 15-0, game-opening
run. AC held SWCC without a field goal for the first five minutes of
play while forcing seven Lady Ram turnovers in that span. AC led at
53-24 at the half, with Felder already having posted 14 points and 12
boards, and Mays having hit for 9 points on three treys.
AC (8-4, 2-0) will get back to Region XIV business on Saturday, with
Tyler’s Lady Apaches invading Shands Gym. Game time for the
doubleheader is 2 p.m., with the AC men following at 4 p.m.
