1/10/2007 - Lady 'Runners sweep Jacksonville
AC Women (8-4, 3-1) vs Lady Jaguars (9-7, 0-4)
Final: AC 87, Jacksonville 59

The Angelina College Lady Roadrunners hit the court with shooters blazing Wednesday, rushing out to a quick 26-3 lead and coasting to an 87-59 win over Jacksonville.

Ty Felder scored 22 points, pulled down eight rebounds and swiped five steals to lead the Lady ‘Runners. Cassandra Johnson and Jamelle Clark added a double-doubles with Johnson hitting for 13 points and 14 rebounds, and Clark scoring 13 points and taking down 11 boards. Camille Parks added 13 points and four assists for AC.

Jacksonville’s Mary Lawson led the Lady Jaguars with 12 points, while Sophia Piggie added 10. Jacksonville falls to 9-7, 0-4.

The Lady Roadrunners (8-4, 3-1) finished with a huge rebounding edge, winning the board wars 52-28. With 35 of those coming on the offensive end, the Lady ‘Runners were able to pick up 27 second-chance points. AC also finished with 17 steals, with Felder and Desiree Waller each pilfering five.

“We said before the game we were going to play the second half in the first half,” head coach Byron Coleman said, referring to his team’s recent trend of getting off to slow starts. “We were looking for threes off the break, but you have to rebound to get those opportunities. We were able to play good defense and control the glass at the same time.”

The big first-half lead came courtesy of some hot perimeter shooting from the Lady ‘Runners: Johnson hit three within two minutes of each other, and Mays added a pair later. Felder finished with 10 points in the first half, allowing AC to build a comfortable 50-35 lead at the break; however, the Lady Jags would get no closer than 12 points the rest of the way.

AC will host Kilgore Saturday as part of a men/women doubleheader, with the women tipping off at 2 p.m.
