3/6/2007 - Ladyrunners 61, Paris 51

The Lady Roadrunners knew coming in that they’d already punched their party ticket to the tournament; all that remained was finding a dance partner.

With their 61-51 win over Paris, AC clinched the fifth seed and will face Blinn College – the same Lady Buc team the Lady ‘Runners beat 64-56 less than two weeks ago.

Ty Felder’s last game at Shands Gym was a dandy, with the sophomore posting another double-double – her sixth of the season – by scoring 22 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Desiree Waller added 10 points and Morgan Petite eight for AC.

Paris got 16 points from Kristin Ford and 13 from Donna Lavea.

Hampered offensively by injuries, the Lady Roadrunners turned to their old standby: Suffocating defense creating scoring opportunities on the other end of the floor. When Paris closed to within a single point at 42-41 with 11:02 remaining, the Lady Roadrunners responded with a pair of steals from Camille Parks and another from Felder to put together a short-but-efficient 9-1 run to keep the game in hand. Paris would get no closer than seven points after that surge.

“Any time you play good defense you’ll have a chance to win a ball game,” head coach Byron Coleman said. “There’s no doubt that if we’re going to win in this tournament, we’re going to have to be very good defensively. That generates our offense for us.”

The Lady Roadrunners finish the regular season at 18-11, 11-7.
