Press Release

2/21/2007 - Lady Roadrunners 62, Kilgore 48

The Lady Roadrunners parlayed their usual defensive effort into an 18-point lead early, then kept it in cruise control the rest of the game in knocking off Kilgore on the road, 62-48 at Masters Gym.

AC (16-9 9-5) forced 29 Lady Ranger turnovers and kept Kilgore from getting into their offense on numerous trips up the floor. In all, the Lady ‘Runners swiped 16 steals, led by Desiree Waller and Ty Felder with four steals each.

Offensively, AC’s balanced attack featured 13 points from Camille Parks and 11 each from Morgan Petite and Cassandra Johnson. Parks and Sha’Tonya Mays hit three three-pointers each to keep the Kilgore defense honest outside the paint.

The Lady Rangers were led by Adonna Weaver with 14 points and Keturah Spotwood with 10.

Kilgore’s last lead of the game was 9-8 at the 16:28 mark. From there, the Lady Roadrunners pushed the margin to as many as 20 points by the end of the first half. The Lady Roadrunners had already forced 18 turnovers at that point and led 39-26 at the break.

In the second half, the Lady Roadrunners continued to deny the Lady Rangers opportunities to run their half-court offense, Kilgore’s only real success of the game. AC’s defensive pressure forced numerous bad passes and turnovers, limiting the opportunities to find Weaver down low.

“We knew they were going to try and run their flex offense and control the tempo, slow things down as much as possible,” head coach Byron Coleman said. “Our game plan was to harass them as much defensively, and not let them set up and control the pace.”

The Lady Roadrunners and Roadrunners will host Blinn on Saturday, with the ladies tipping off at 2 p.m. and the men following at 4:00.
