Press Release

3/3/2007 - Panola 87, Ladyrunners 73

The Panola Fillies hit the floor running Saturday, and the short-handed Angelina College Lady Roadrunners spent the rest of the day trying to keep up.

In a fast-paced, high-tempo game the Fillies attempted 44 three-pointers, converting 14 of them on their way to an 87-73 win over the Lady ‘Runners.

AC’s Desiree Waller served as the high point for the Lady Roadrunners, hitting eight threes herself in tallying 31 points. Ty Felder added 13 points and eight boards; and Camille Parks hit for 10 points despite missing most of the second half with foul troubles.

With Parks benched with fouls, and Cassandra Johnson still sitting out with an injury, the Lady Roadrunners simply had too little firepower against a Fillie team with four players in double figures. Karee Houlette’s 17 first-half points were part of her 22-point total; Houlette finished with four threes. Dominique Sims’ short-range jumper was good enough for 19 points; and Beata Widding added 13 that featured three treys. Kim Edmonson hit four threes for her 12 points.

Panola built a 13-point lead in a frenzied first half. The two teams combined to hit 14 threes, with Houlette (three treys) and Waller (five three-pointers) holding a personal shooting duel. The Fillies’ 13-2run to close out the half sent Panola to the locker room leading 48-35.

AC cut a double-digit deficit down to four points at 69-65 on a pair of Parks free throws with 3:29 to play. But Panola put together a 9-2 run over the next two minutes to put the game out of reach and drop the Lady Roadrunners to 10-7 in conference play.

The regular-season finale for both AC teams will take place beginning at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. The men will follow at 7:30.
