Press Release

1/31/2007 - Trinity Valley 81, Ladyrunners 74

The Lady Roadrunners have lost two straight for just the second time this season, falling to the Lady Cardinals Wednesday at Shands Gym.

A 16-turnover first half caused the Lady ‘Runners to dig themselves an early hole; that, along with seven three-pointers from Lady Card Zane Jakobsone – she hit six in the final seven minutes of the first half – allowed TVCC to overcome and early AC lead en route to the win.

Desiree Waller and Ty Felder each scored 18 to lead AC, with Waller connecting on four treys and Felder collecting 10 rebounds. Cassandra Johnson added 11 points for the Lady Roadrunners.

Jakobsone’s 21 led the Lady Cards; teammates Darika Hill and Stephanie Madden added 16 points each.

AC struggled with turnovers in the early going, finishing the first half with 16 miscues, most of those on traveling calls. Leading 23-21 at one point, the Lady Roadrunners then watched helplessly as Jakobsone drained long shot after long shot, allowing TVCC to close the half with a 38-31 lead.

The Trinity Valley lead reached 15 points by the 5:21 mark of the second half, but as has been the case all season, the Lady Roadrunners staged a late-game rally. AC closed to within five on Morgan Petite’s bucket with 1:21 to play; and when the Lady Cards misfired on several late free throws, it appeared as if AC might pull off the big comeback.

Unfortunately for the Lady Roadrunners, Lady Cards Schivona Johnson and Ashley Walker combined to hit four-of-four free throws in the final seconds.

The loss drops AC to 12-8, 6-4, while Trinity Valley moves to 16-6, 7-3.

The Lady Roadrunners will host Southern-Shreveport Saturday with a scheduled 5 p.m. start. The men will host Navarro at 7 p.m.
