AC SCIENCE & MATH STUDENTS HEADING TO NASA

Several students from the Angelina College Science and Math Division will get the opportunity of a lifetime with a weekend visit to the facilities at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston beginning on Thursday.

The students are attending as part of the Community College Aerospace Scholars program funded by the state of Texas and administered by the Johnson Space Center. Each community college district across Texas nominates students interested in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics; those selected will participate in a hands-on project featuring career possibilities.

According to the CAS web site, the attending students will, in addition to the project Participate in team project directed by NASA engineers, “attend engineer, scientist and astronaut briefings, tour the Johnson Space Center facilities, and interact with other students from across the state.”

AC students selected to attend include Samuel Childers, Jordan Conway and Clint Jones of Lufkin; Alex Gonzalez of Diboll; Wesley Wheeler of Groveton; and Shane Wright of Zavalla.

Alternates will attend next year’s conference. They include Amanda Murley of Lufkin; Chris Gergen of Pollok; Brandon West of San Augustine; and Leroy Urbina of Hutto.
