4/19/2008 - Roadrunners Sweep Northeast
The Angelina College Roadrunners regained their brooms Saturday with a
sweep of Northeast Texas, taking 13-8 and 10-2 wins in Mt. Pleasant.
Mark Serna, who entered the game having knocked in a total of eight
runs on the season, drove in seven in the two games with various hits
that included a three-run triple in the nightcap.
In the opener, the Roadrunners took advantage of a wild streak from
the Eagle pitching staff, which walked three batters and hit another
three. AC used those freebies to score seven runs in the first two
innings, and added a two-RBI single from Ryan Kelley and RBI doubles
from Keith Prestridge and Jake Rowell.
Ryland Parker earned the win in relief, spelling starter Jason Gurka
in the fourth inning. Parker put together an impressive stretch in
which he retired 10 of 11 hitters at one point.
In the nightcap, ‘Runner starting pitcher Trey Rackel got back on the
winning track with a six-inning effort in which he allowed just six
hits – five of those singles – while striking out six and giving up
just two runs in AC’s 10-2 win. Daniel Franchois tossed three innings
of scoreless relief, allowing just one Northeast Texas hit along the
way.
Those hurlers got their run support from Austin Lasprilla, who led off
the game with a solo homer – his second in three games – and added a
two-run double in the second. Serna’s three-run triple padded the
lead, as the Roadrunners led 9-0 after just two innings.
For the day, Prestridge scored five runs on four hits.
AC will host Lon Morris on Wednesday in the season’s final home stand.
Game time for the opener is noon, with Game 2 following 30 minutes
afterward.
Scheduled starters for the series are Frank Corolla and Corey
Benevides.
