FINE ARTS PRESENTS "SCROOGE" NOV. 29-30

This Christmas season, Angelina College Theater will re-create a holiday classic from 1934, the radio broadcast of “Scrooge” adapted by Dailey Paskman from A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. "Scrooge" will be performed in the Temple Theater Nov. 29 and 30 at 6 p.m. Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $4.00 for seniors and children. All seats are reserved.

Guest Director Don Glenn has staged this adaptation as a live radio broadcast, complete with narrators, chorus, and an on-stage sound effects crew. The narrators, carolers, and sound effects people will play dual roles: each one portrays a 1930s “radio personality” performing in a live “broadcast” of “Scrooge”. The audience will be the “Studio Audience” of yesteryear, seeing all the action while the listeners at home only heard the dialogue. Paskman’s original Scrooge was Lionel Barrymore, whose portrayal of the title character came to epitomize the Christmas season for millions of Americans for nearly twenty years. In spite of the fact that the radio audience couldn’t see him, Barrymore always broadcast in full stage makeup, complete with costume, looking like the essence of the nasty old miser.

This excellent adaptation of Dickens' beloved story has all the humor and spirit of the Christmas season. The narrators take us along each scene as the characters speak, linking all of the scenes as the story unfolds. The play is framed musically by a choir of young people who are in character as the Carolers. They sing Christmas carols to bridge the connecting scenes, and serve as background to the words of the Narrators.

Garland Buffalo will play the irascible Ebenezer Scrooge. Other cast members are: Narrator and Caroler – Jessica Poland as Jessica “Funny Girl” Bryce; Narrator and Sound Effects Crew Leader - Casey Lilley as Johnny Broadway; Narrator and Children’s Ensemble Leader - Retha Powers as Retha Dimples; Carolers – Sarah Jackson and Nancy McClelland; Sound Effects Crew – Helen Barden and Danyelle McClain; Bob Cractchit – Cody Hall; Mrs. Cratchit – Amy Hupp; Tiny Tim – Dustin Hupp; Emily Cratchit – Danyelle McClain; Scrooge’s nephew Fred – Jared Hardy; Marley – Sharon Buffalo; Ghost of Christmas Past – Clay Hall; Ghost of Christmas Present – Courtney Gaither; Ghost of Christmas Yet-To-Come – Regina Pierson; Mr. Fezziwig – Cameron Jones; Mrs. Fezziwig – Sonia Jacobo; Dick, a Fezziwig apprentice – Noel Proctor; Molly, Young Scrooge’s girlfriend – Jade Wilson; Young Ebenezer – Taz Powers; Boy Ebenezer – Kasey Jobe; Children – Kasey Jobe, Kyrstin Jobe, Taz Powers, and Jade Wilson.
