AC, JASPER CHORALES TEAMING UP FOR SPRING CONCERT
The Angelina College Chorale, featuring Voice Faculty and students, will
team up with the Jasper High School Choir for a Spring concert taking
place at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 6 in AC’s Hudgins Hall.
AC’s Chorale is led by Beckie Compton; she and Jasper HS director Martin
Jones will split directorial duties throughout the show that will
feature a mix of spiritual and folk songs from different eras of music
history. Some of those numbers include Come Sail Away with Me
(Schubert), Sing Forever to the Lord (Paige), Three Madrigals (Diemer)
and Sound the Trumpet (Purcell).
In addition, Angelina College Voice instructors Charlotte Davis and
Randy Green will offer duets on Pie Jesu and All I Ask of You from
Phantom of the Opera. Daniel Perry (Youth and Love), John Slack (The
Vagabond) and Maribel Castillo (Sure on This Shining Night) will perform
solos.
“Several years ago, we invited a high school choir to perform a
Christmas concert with us, and it was very well received,” Compton said.
“It’s a very good way to involve the community, and to introduce some
local music students to our program.
“I’ve really enjoyed working with the Jasper choir and Mr. Jones.
They’re a very good choir, very polished, and they’ll add a nice sound
to the concert.”
Students comprising the AC Chorale include John Slack, Daniel Perry,
Josh Griffin, Jeremy Powell, Erin Nelson, Hallie Collier, Sarah Jackson,
Maribel Castillo, Bethani Blake, Esther McClure and Ericia Rains.
Admission is $4 for adults and $3 for seniors, students and children.
