CHRISTMAS AT THE KEYBOARD SCHEDULED FOR DEC. 4

As its annual Christmas gift to local music lovers, the Angelina College Fine Arts Division will once again present “Christmas at the Keyboard”, now in its fifth season of entertaining holiday audiences.

The recital will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 4 in the Temple Theater on the Angelina College campus.

A music recital originally formatted for piano and keyboards, “Keyboards” has expanded to include vocals and other instruments including guitar, flute and saxophone, among others. According to AC Music Instructor Pam McLendon, that versatility lends more variety to the show.

“Besides the different instrumentation, sometimes you may hear the same piece you’re accustomed to hearing but in a different style,” McLendon says. “You may hear a holiday standard done jazz style, or hymn style. You might hear two or three performers playing a certain tune when you’re more accustomed to hearing just one. This year, we have three piano students who will play a trio. And we’re also hoping for a first: We have some of our class piano students (non-piano majors) forming an ensemble of six.”

Some of the scheduled performers include McLendon, Ian Tishberg, Jaime Heredia, Ashley Maddox, Stephen Rushing, Ryan Haden, Erin Nelson and Evelyn Walker.

“Our performers are very excited about this, especially our music majors,” McLendon says. “If you’re a music major, you want to perform, and this is their opportunity to showcase their talents.”

Tickets for the show are $4 for adults, $3 for senior citizens, students and children.
