For the month of March at the Angelina College Gallery the black and
white photography of local artist Jan Anderson-Paxson will be on
display. Anderson-Paxson is a full time instructor at Angelina College,
teaching Photography, Digital Publishing and Art Appreciation. Her work has been
recognized nationally and has been shown in major publications as well.
She has won entry into several juried exhibitions recently. The
photographs in this exhibit are those she took while traveling in Italy.
Anderson-Paxson says of these works, "During a study abroad trip to
Italy, I had the opportunity to explore its cities and culture,
resulting in a body of work that depicts my personal interpretation of
the country. I want the viewer to look at my images and get a feeling of
place, culture, and sense a mood of reflection and contemplation as the
photographs reveal the fragments and recollections of my memories. While
the photographs are collectively important to the meaning as a whole,
individually in some instances, the subject becomes less important and
instead serves as a vehicle for the celebration of light, line, shape
and form, within the discovered beauty I found from unexpected sources."
There will be a public reception for the exhibition on Tuesday, March 4
from 6 to 7:30 p.m. There is no admission charge for this event. The
artist will be present to greet the public and talk about her work.
