AC'S SWINGING ROADRUNNER JAZZ BAND AND ACC BIG BAND CONCERT
April is Jazz Appreciation month and Angelina College will be
celebrating with performances by the AC Swinging Roadrunner Jazz Combo
and the ACC Big Band.
The concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 25th in AC’s
Hudgins Hall Auditorium. Tickets are $4 for adults and $3 for Seniors,
students and children.
Featured composers for the concert will be Duke Ellington, Thad Jones,
Antonio Carlos Jobim, and Sonny Rollins, to name but a few.
The ACC (Angelina College Community) Big Band is a community based 16
piece jazz orchestra made up of area band directors, retired and
professional musicians. The band is under the direction of Larry Greer,
Angelina College music instructor, and is celebrating their third year
of helping to keep jazz alive in the East Texas area.
Members of the Roadrunner Combo include Ian Tishberg (Nacogdoches),
guitar; Stephen Rushing (Lufkin), bass; Addison Weaver (Nacogdoches),
drums; Aaron Winter (Nacogdoches), piano; Cindy Rojo (Lufkin), clarinet;
Steven Nash (Diboll), trombone; Ryan Stovall (Lufkin), saxophone.
ACC Big Band members include the following:
Saxophones: Dixon Shanks (lead alto); Ryan Stovall (alto); Scott Floyd
(lead tenor); Will Rogers (tenor); John Cavanaugh (baritone). Trombones:
Steve Cox (lead); Robert Shanks, Lee Miller and Jimmy Battle (bass).
Trumpets: Dwain Forsythe (lead); Ross Langdron, Rob Maharrey and Mel
Miller. Rhythm Section: Joe Nerren (piano); Kevin Kelley, Kevin Jones
and Steve Bradly (guitar); Jeff Zwolinksi and Mark Saldana (drum set).
