11/15/2011 - Roadrunners Hosting Lonestar College-Tomball
AC Off to 5-0 Start

The word “chemistry” gets kicked around an awful lot in the world of sports. Teams without it are flirting with disaster, while teams with it are usually sitting atop someone’s leader boards.

Team chemistry happens to be a big reason for the Angelina College Roadrunners’ 5-0 start to the season. The only surprise in the mixture is that all this is happening with just a single sophomore on the roster. That’s a total of 13 freshmen learning to play together – and learning both quickly and well. While some teams take at least half a season to jell, these Roadrunners have come together with an audible “click.”

Mike Myers, the lone sophomore, is pounding the hardwoods to the tune of nearly 23 points and 12 rebounds per game. Freshman Jaylen Daniel (14.5 ppg) is ensuring teams can’t focus on Myers alone, as are Jesse Anderson (11.5 points, 3.75 assists per game), Damon Sherman-Newsome (8.75 ppg) and Jamie Farrie (8.5 points, 4.5 rebounds per game). Quietly making his own presence is the 6’10” Frank Snow, who’s averaging nearly 10 boards per game while converting nearly 70 percent of his free throws.

In fact, no matter who head coach Todd Neighbors runs onto the floor, he’s getting productivity and unselfishness – the team is averaging 14.75 assists per game – of the type guaranteed to make the ‘Runners contenders in a tough Region XIV conference.

On Tuesday night, the Roadrunners will host their final non-conference home game, taking on Lonestar College-Tomball. AC hammered the Timberwolves 93-66 in the season opener, with Veontae Lewis leading the scoring with 17 points that night.

Game time is 7 p.m. at Shands Gymnasium in Lufkin.
