11/23/2011 - Jacksonville 99, Roadrunners 83 Malik Smith of Jacksonville hit for eight three pointers in the second half to lead the Jags to a 99-83 win over Angelina College. Smith’s long-distance dialing was part of a combined 12 treys for the Jags, who pulled away from AC after leading 35-34 at the half. Smith would finish with 28 points to lead the Jags. Roadrunner Mike Myers tallied a season-high 32 points despite missing 12 minutes while sitting with foul trouble. Myers also added 13 rebounds in the loss. Victor Mbachu (13 points), Damon Sherman-Newsome (12 points) and Jesse Anderson (10 points) were the other Roadrunners in double figures. The game opened in a crazy pace, with each team seemingly trying to wear the other down. AC head coach Todd Neighbors and Jacksonville head coach Jody Bailey substituted players at nearly every whistle in an attempt to keep the tempo at a break-neck pace. Eventually, the strategy worked more to the Jaguars’ advantage: They were able to put up 34 points off turnovers to just 13 for the Roadrunners, along with finishing with a 49-16 edge in bench scoring. The Roadrunners (7-2, 0-1) will host the Guy Davis Thanksgiving Classic beginning on Friday. A full schedule of games is available by logging on to www.angelina.edu and clicking the Athletics link.
