11/23/2011 - Roadrunners Hosting Guy Davis Thanksgiving Classic
Eight-Team Tourney Begins Friday

Shands Gymnasium in Lufkin will be the site of a full weekend of college basketball, with the Guy Davis Thanksgiving Classic tipping off on Friday and running through Saturday.

Eight teams, including the Angelina College Roadrunners, will participate in the two-day hoops classic. Two of those – Navarro College and Jacksonville College – are Roadrunner conference rivals, meaning fans will get a preview of some of AC’s competition.

The Roadrunners dropped their conference opener to Jacksonville’s Jaguars on Tuesday night, falling 99-83 to the sophomore-loaded Jaguars. An undaunted Todd Neighbors, AC head coach, saw plenty of positives in his young team’s effort.

“I’m proud of the guys. We played hard, but it’s hard to overcome that three-point barrage we faced in the second half,” Neighbors said. “Winning on the road in this league is always tough.

“But we’re young, and we know it’s a long season. We’re going to be much better team in February.”

The schedules for Friday and Saturday are as follows:

Friday – Texas Riders vs. Tomball College, 1 p.m.; Jacksonville vs. Ranger, 3 p.m.; Navarro vs. Southwestern Christian, 5 p.m.; Midland vs. Angelina College, 7 p.m.

Saturday – Texas Riders vs. Ranger, 1 p.m.; Jacksonville vs. Midland, 3 p.m.; Navarro vs. Tomball, 5 p.m.; Southwestern Christian vs. Angelina College, 7 p.m.
