2/27/2012 - Roadrunner Baseball Hosting Monday Doubleheader

Lon Morris Visiting Roadrunner Field

The Angelina College Roadrunner baseball team will host Lon Morris College in a Monday afternoon matinee at Roadrunner Field. The doubleheader will feature a pair of seven-inning tilts set to start at 1 p.m., with the nightcap scheduled to follow shortly afterward.

The ‘Runners (7-11, 5-6) are coming off a weekend series with Galveston in which AC won one of the three games, getting blanked on Thursday 4-0, dropping the opener on Saturday by a 9-6 score and taking the finale by a 3-1 final.

Scheduled starters Zach Boswell and Jacob McNeil will attempt to duplicate the team’s early successes. The AC pitching staff is second in the region with a team ERA of 2.33 – not to mention the staff’s recording two no hitters in a single month.

As the pitching continues to impress, the Roadrunners are waiting for the bats to come alive, having been shut out on several occasions. Part of that is testament to the high level of pitching prevalent throughout the Region XIV East Zone, while the loss of All-Stars Zach Taylor and Keith Cormier – out with shoulder injuries – hasn’t helped any, either. Both players are expected back in the lineup soon, where they’re certain to boost some much-needed run production.

Both of Monday’s games will be available via audio streaming by logging on to www.angelina.edu and clicking on the Athletics link.
