Free Standby Tickets Offered To AS Students This Year Beginning this season, Angelina College will offer FREE standby tickets to all AC students (with a valid student ID) for every Angelina Arts Alliance performance at the Temple Theater (in the ACA Building). Students may obtain their free tickets by arriving at the box office no earlier than an hour before showtime. Standby tickets are available on a first come/first served basis and sold subject to availability. This is a great opportunity for AC students to experience the professional live touring events presented by the Arts Alliance. The free tickets are offered by the College – and paid for -- from the Student Activity Fund. Birdhouse Factory (Oct. 25) by Cirque Mechanics is performed by an extraordinary troupe of Cirque du Soleil, Pickle Family Circus, and Moscow Circus veterans who transform the mundane into the magnificent. One of the hottest tickets in contemporary American dance, the Parsons Dance (Nov. 1) company is made up of high-energy, supremely polished artists who breathe life and vitality into Parsons’ inventive, witty, theatrical, and humane choreography. Cantus: “All Is Calm” (Dec. 14) is a theatre/choral piece that features actors and singers recreating the amazing true story of the Christmas truce of 1914, when soldiers on both sides of WWI put a temporary stop to the war to celebrate the holiday together. Ballet Folklórico de México (Jan. 24) delivers a stunning performance that combines live music, elaborate choreography, and ornate costumes to showcase the colorful tradition and folklore of Mexico. Winner of eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Hairspray (Mar. 11-12) is the Broadway musical comedy phenomenon that tells the story of 16-year-old Tracy Turnblad’s dream of dancing her way onto TV’s most popular show in 1962 Baltimore. Whether you remember him as J.R. on “Dallas”, Tony Nelson on “I Dream of Jeannie”, or the son of Broadway superstar Mary Martin, Larry Hagman (Apr. 16) will charm and fascinate you with his warm, funny, and candid self-portrait, in a very personal evening. Ann Hampton Callaway (May 13) is not only an amazing jazz vocalist and pianist, but also a songwriter/arranger and Broadway actress whose live show brings wit, warmth, and passion to the Lufkin stage. Angelina Arts Alliance is currently selling season subscriptions for its 2009-10 lineup of events. While single tickets go on sale for each show 30 days prior to the event, a season subscription is a guarantee that patrons will never miss a sold-out performance.
