AC Bands Fall Concert to Offer Jazz, Big Band Sounds Offering tastes of the music that never grows old, the Angelina College Swinging Roadrunner Jazz Band and the ACC Big Band will gather on the stage of AC’s Hudgins Hall at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, November 19th to present their annual fall concert. The Swinging Roadrunners’ tentative program includes possible selections such as “Straight No Chaser” by Thelonious Monk; “Ornithology” by Charlie Parker; and “Round Midnight” and “Bags Groove” by Miles Davis; and “Mood Indigo” by Duke Ellington, to name but a few. Potential tunes from the ACC Big Band include “Autumn Leaves” by Johnny Mercer; “Georgia” by Hoagy Carmichael; “Little Brown Jug” by Glenn Miller; and “Blue Bossa” by Kenny Dorham. Greer, a music instructor for AC’s Fine Arts Division, assembles his unique blend of college musicians as each semester progresses, measuring their talents to see just where they fit into the Swinging Roadrunner Combo. He then showcases those talents in fall and spring concerts. Members of the Swinging Roadrunners include Ryan Stovall (alto sax); Reed Porterfield (tenor sax); Steven Rider (trumpet); Jordan Linstrom (bass); Addison Weaver (drums); Autumn Rutherford (piano); Steve Costner (guitar); and Josh Murray (guitar). The ACC Big Band fills its chairs with both local and student musicians. A 15-piece orchestra, the band is comprised of retired professional musicians, band directors, professionals from other fields and former students playing swing era tunes from the golden years of American music. Tickets for the show are $4 for adults, and $3 for senior citizens, students and children.
