AC Bands, Lufkin Community Bands To Present Fall Concert

A variety of musical styles and talents will take the stage this month for Angelina College’s Fall Concert featuring the AC Swinging Roadrunner Jazz Band, the AC Concert Band and the Lufkin Community Band.

The collaborative performance will take place 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 27th in the Temple Theater on the AC campus.

The Swinging Roadrunner Jazz Combo, led by AC music instructor Larry Greer, will open the concert, playing selections from such jazz notables as Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Thelonius Monk and others.

The AC Chamber Band will take the stage afterward, under the direction of Ronnie Pruitt, will perform three selections: “Norwegian Folk Song Suite” (Erickson); “An Irish Interlude” (Barker); and “Miniature Overture” (Erickson).

Capping the evening’s entertainment will be the Lufkin Community Band, directed by David E. Smith. The LCB, according to Smith, promises “a closing sonic spectacular featuring the best of American popular music from Broadway, Television and the Stage.” The Band will open with a medley of tunes from Leonard Bernstein and “West Side Story” before moving on to the “Hogan’s Heroes March.” Guest conductor Ronnie Pruitt will then lead the Band in highlights from the Lerner and Lowe classic “My Fair Lady.” East Texas’ own March King, Kelly Bennette will receive a tribute with “The One-Eyed Chicken” (details will be revealed at the concert). Turning to a cinematic theme, LCB will offer the theme from the John Wayne classic “The Alamo” followed by “The Green Leaves of Summer.” The band will close with “Highlights from Harry Potter by the ever-popular John Williams.

Tickets for the event are $4 for adults, and $3 for seniors, students and children.
