Angelina College Gallery Presenting Reynolds’ ‘Visible Light’ Exhibition Angelina College Gallery will present “Visible Light”, a one-person exhibition by Reginald Reynolds, scheduled to open Tuesday, Oct. 4 and running through Oct. 26 in the Angelina Center for the Arts gallery on the AC campus. This exhibition by Reynolds promises to be a most interesting one, affording the community the rare opportunity to experience a major installation piece. Installation art is art that is usually created for a specific space, and its purpose is to transform that space. Generally, an installation piece is not considered complete until the viewer becomes interactive with it, thus adding to the piece itself. “There are two types of light: ‘incident’ light and ‘reflected’ light,” Reynolds said in an artist’s statement. “Incident light comes directly from a source – a flame, a light bulb or the sun. Most of the light we see, however, is reflected light – light that lands on an object and is reflected back to our eye. “I have been working with video, lighting, furniture design and sculptural installations to explore ideas about lit interior space. With light a designer can load interior spaces with meaning. It is this spatial experience and the feeling that one gets from lighted interior spaces that we have shared with mankind for over 30,000 years. “We have much in common with Paleolithic men carrying out elaborate hunting rituals as they paint on dark cave walls by flickering torch light. Modern filmmakers projecting images on screens in dark rooms continue the pursuit of the magical and mystical metaphor VISIBLE LIGHT. “Interior design, interior architecture, set design, lighting for film and video are a series of interdisciplinary interests that have become foundations of my teaching and art practice.” An artist’s reception will take place in the gallery from 6 to 7:30 PM. The public is invited and there is no admission fee for either the gallery or the reception.
