Hitting for the cycle – a homer, a triple, a double and a single – in a game is a rare feat in both baseball and softball.

But hitting for a “homer” cycle is breaking new ground entirely.

Angelina College’s Lynsey Mitchell very nearly completed the feat in Friday’s opening game of a doubleheader with Jarvis Christian College. The sophomore from Liberty Hill rocked a grand slam, a three-run homer and a two-run shot in a single game, finishing with a new single-game RBI record of 11 runs batted in.

Mitchell wasn’t finished. In the nightcap, she added two more homers – a three-run blast and a two-run shot – to round out her day with five homers and 17 RBI as the Lady Roadrunners rolled to a 22-4, 23-0 sweep in AC’s home opener at Roadrunner Complex.

Mitchell wasn’t the only Lady ‘Runner swinging a big bat: The Lady Roadrunners teamed up for a total of nine homers in the two games. Halie Pritchett went deep twice in the nightcap, blasting a first-inning grand slam and following that with a solo shot in the second. Kali Holcomb, Lauren Garza also homered for AC, now 6-1 on the season.

Whitney Howerton earned the win in the circle in the opener, while Kylie Murdock tossed a shutout in the nightcap.

Kaylee Parker went 4-for-4 in the opener and added two more hits, including a two-run double, in the late game. Garza finished the late game with three hits and three RBI; and Morgan Conner added a two-run double in the fourth.

The Lady Roadrunners (6-1) will host Mountain View College in a Sunday doubleheader scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
