STAC Frequently Asked Questions

How much does tutoring cost?
It’s free! If you are a student currently attending Angelina College, the tutoring center is here to help you and does not cost you a thing.

Who needs tutoring services?
Any student can benefit from the reinforcement offered through peer tutoring. No matter what your skill level or goals, peer tutoring can help!

Who are the tutors?
There are two professional tutors with certifications in math and English. Also, there are several peer tutors who are currently attending Angelina College along with a few graduate students.

How do tutors qualify?
Tutors must make an A or B in the course they wish to tutor, and they need a recommendation from their instructor. They are also interviewed and go through tutor training.

What classes is tutoring available in?
This varies from semester to semester, but we try to have tutors for math, science, English, and business. If we don’t have your subject, but you need help, let us know and we will try to find someone.

Do I need to make an appointment?
Right now we are not requiring appointments. The tutors are here during their scheduled time, so look at the schedule, decide which tutor you want to work with and just drop-in during that time frame.

What can I expect from working with a tutor?
Along with a smiling face and an encouraging and comfortable environment, our tutors are here to help but remember that they cannot do everything. These are a few things to keep in mind when you seek the help of tutors:

• Tutors will not do your homework.
• Tutors will not give you the answers.
• Tutors will help you review your work.
• Tutors will explain concepts, rules and methods that you do not understand.
