Drafting & Design Technology Program

The drafter is a technician who correlates work between the design, engineering and the end users of engineering documentation The drafter's chief function is to prepare working drawings from sketches, written specifications, or field notes under the direction of an engineer, architect or surveyor.

The drawings enable craftsmen and operatives to produce a finished manufactured product or complete a construction project. This program provides both manual and computer-aided drafting experience supplemented with related technical information. The graduate will be qualified for entry-level technician positions in drafting.

The Drafting Career Pathway takes students through an extensive college credit program with specialty subject areas including basic drafting and architectural, civil, structural and mechanical drafting. Completion of previous high school courses in drafting is not necessary for success in the college program. Day and evening drafting classes are offered at Angelina College are offered.

Accreditation Statement
The Drafting and Design Technology program at Angelina College is accredited by the Texas Higher Education Board and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Technology
Specialized computer software programs are used to generate detailed drawings of houses, machine parts, construction sites, and structures. The drawings are produced on high speed plotters from the computer files and geographical information systems data.

Job Opportunities
Graduates enter the workforce full-time in entry level position under the direction of engineers, planners, and architects. Graduates with the associate's degree may continue the career path to a bachelorΉs degree.
Placement Rate & Salaries

Completers of the degree program exceeded 92 percent placement during the past three years. Most of the graduates are employed in the local area in engineering firms, manufacturing plants, forest product mills, and government offices.

Starting wages vary according to the size, type and geographic location of the industry, and the experience of the graduate. Wage information is available on request.
