Legal Assistant Program


The Legal Assistant Associate in Applied Science program prepares students for employment as a legal assistant/paralegal, with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform legal research, drafting, investigation, correspondence and substantive legal work under the guidance and supervision of a licensed attorney.

Students completing all course requirements and acquiring the associate
degree are eligible to apply for certification, by examination, from the
National Association of Legal Assistants.

*LGLA 1307 is a prerequisite or co-requisite to all other LGLA courses.



Paralegal students have full access to the Angelina College law library. Students also have full access to, and are trained to use Westlaw © and Lexus Nexus, the electronic legal research databases for lawyers. Students in the program also have access to, and are trained to use ProDoc ©, the legal document assembly program for the legal profession.

All students at the college have full internet access through the library or Workplace Skills Lab.

All paralegal courses are taught by practicing attorneys in the areas they teach. Law Office Management and CLA Review courses are taught by Certified Legal Assistants.

**LGLA 1303, Beginning Legal Research is a prerequisite to LGLA 2331, Advanced Research. LGLA 1307 is a prerequisite to all other LGLA courses. Angelina College is accredited by the Texas Higher Education Board and the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association on Colleges and Schools.
