AC Athletics
Hey, sports fans,
Believe it or not, our Angelina College baseball and softball teams are heading into their final weeks of the regular season, with both squads hosting their final home games over the next few days. Our baseball team will hold its “Sophomore Day” ceremony following Tuesday’s home game against Panola College, and the Lady Roadrunners will honor their sophomores following this Saturday’s home finale against San Jacinto College.
Speaking of the Lady ‘Runners, the team plans to honor teammate Addison Babbs in an upcoming ceremony. Addison has been battling cancer, but she’s remained an integral part of the squad throughout her journey.
On another note, our Roadrunner men’s soccer team recently participated in a camp for children with special needs as part of the AC program’s desire to contribute to the community.
In addition, Angelina College had released its dates for “Camp Roadrunner” scheduled to run through the summer. We’re adding all the information below.
We are AC, and we’re ready to Run ‘Em.
Here’s a quick rundown of the past week’s events, along with what’s coming up next:
Roadrunner Baseball Takes Pair of Non-Conference Games
The Roadrunners won a pair of non-conference games this past week, starting with Monday’s 10-9 win at Dallas College-Richland. Jon “Diesel” Gonzalez homered and drove in two runs in the win, and Cohen Babineaux and Stefano Ramos each added a pair of RBI. Seth Sloan, Connor Ficarra and Gavin Harmse also drove in runs in the win.
On Wednesday, the ‘Runners topped Baton Rouge Community College 8-5 in Shreveport behind Ficarra’s three-run, walk-off homer in the 10th inning. Babineaux and Gonzalez added two RBI each, and Ramos finished with a 5-for-5 effort at the plate, scoring three of AC’s runs in the process.
The wins secured a winning record for first-year head coach Jon Phillips.
The Roadrunners’ (12-15, 24-18) final home game will take place starting at 1 p.m. against Panola College on Tuesday, April 28 at Poland Stadium. The team will host its Sophomore Day ceremony at that time. The ‘Runners will wrap up the regular season with Friday’s doubleheader at Panola, with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. in Carthage.
Lady Roadrunner Softball Splits with Coastal Bend, Suffers Sweep at Lamar-PA
The Lady ‘Runners split Thursday’s doubleheader at Coastal Bend Community College, dropping the opener by a 5-4 final before taking the nightcap in a 12-11 thriller.
In the opener, Elizabeth Craig homered and drove in three runs, and Audrey Richardson added an RBI.
The nightcap saw Jessi Sumpter homer twice to drive in four runs, while Megan Smith and Ella Stephenson also homered and drove in a pair of runs each. Eastyn Wilkie collected three hits in four trips to the plate, contributing an RBI in the win.
The team would travel to Lamar State College-Port Arthur for a Sunday doubleheader (the games were moved from Saturday because of inclement weather), and the Seahawks swept AC by final scores of 4-2 and 9-1.
The Lady Roadrunners (14-32, 5-15) will close out their regular season this week with a pair of home doubleheaders. AC will host Galveston College in a Wednesday doubleheader starting at 1 p.m., and wrap up the season on Saturday in twin bill against San Jacinto College starting at 1 p.m. Both of this week’s home stands take place at the Larry Phillips Family Sports Complex on the AC campus.
The Lady ‘Runners will honor their sophomores at Saturday’s “Sophomore Day” ceremony following the games against San Jacinto College.
Softball to Honor Babbs on Sophomore Day
Addison Babbs has been an integral part of the Lady Roadrunner softball team for two full years, and the only thing keeping her from battling with her teammates on the field has been her own personal battle with cancer.
Earlier this week, Addison earned one of the biggest “W”s in program history when she “rang the bell” signifying her win over the disease.
On Saturday, May 2 the Lady Roadrunners will celebrate Sophomore Day, but the team also is planning a special honor for Addison, who despite having valid reasons for holding off on her classwork, managed to complete her requirements for her associate’s degree. She’ll walk the stage of AC’s Commencement ceremony on Friday, May 9.
The team is extending an invitation for all of Addison’s faculty, staff, friends and other supporters who have been cheering her on from the sidelines. The Lady Roadrunners will host San Jacinto College starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 2 at the Larry Phillips Family Sports Complex on the AC campus.
Roadrunner Soccer Team Youth Camp
The Angelina College men’s soccer team recently participated in a unique event held in Jacksonville, Texas. AC’s guys volunteered to help with the TOPSoccer association’s event. TOPSoccer is a community-based soccer program designed to meet the needs of children with physical and/or mental disabilities; Jacksonville Soccer Association sponsors the event.

Potential Schedule Changes:
As always in East Texas, the potential exists for schedule changes because of inclement weather. We try to put out the word as soon as we get it, but the quickest way to confirm game days and times is to visit the AC Athletics website (angelinaathletics.com) to view the most updated schedules. We’ll also send out word on social media (AC Athletics Facebook and Instagram, etc.), but the on-line schedule will always serve up the most recent updates.
Live Streaming Reminder:
All AC Athletics regular-season home games are live streamed on TSBN Sports (a free streaming service for fans), with most of the conference road games also available for streaming. (This does not include baseball and softball fall games, as those are not considered official games.)
Once TSBN posts its schedules, AC fans simply need to visit the AC Athletics web site, look at the scrolling schedule in the middle of the page and click the blue “Video” link.
TSBN also offers an app great for smart phones, devices and smart TVs. (You’ve GOT to see those matches and games on the big screen.)
Reminder II: Admission to ALL Angelina College Athletics sporting events is free, as is the TSBN live streaming. Any other links offering streaming are scams.
Reminder III: For the most current schedule updates (especially for potential weather issues) visit the official Angelina College Athletics website (angelinaathletics.com). Fans can also receive updates on the AC Athletics Facebook, X/Twitter, and Instagram pages.
