Summer 2026 Lunch & Learn Courses:

 

Lunch & Learn – Partners in Purpose: Building a Culture of Volunteerism | $35 (Elective)

Volunteers are at the heart of every nonprofit, forming the foundation that makes mission-driven work possible. Yet many organizations have seen volunteer participation decline even as demand for services continues to grow. This session invites participants to reimagine the role of volunteers within their organizations. Attendees will learn practical strategies to attract and engage volunteers, cultivate the talent needed, and build a mission-aligned volunteer workforce. The session will also explore ways to position current volunteers as ambassadors who strengthen community trust and advance organizational goals.

 

Lunch & Learn – Grant Basics for Nonprofit Organizations | $35 (Elective)

This practical session provides nonprofit organizations with a foundational understanding of grants, funding opportunities, and the grant development process. Participants will explore grant terminology, proposal basics, common mistakes, outcomes and evaluation, and practical tools that help organizations build stronger, more sustainable programs.

 

Lunch & Learn – Canva for Effective Content Creation | $35 (Elective)

Discover how to create impactful content quickly and easily using Canva, whether you’re just getting started or looking to build on your skills. This session will cover essential design tips, simple video editing, and practical strategies to help you create consistent, professional marketing content.

Donor Development – The Fundraising Cycle | $85 (Core Class)

  • September 2 & 9 | Wednesdays | 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM

This course offers a comprehensive exploration of how to develop a reliable and lasting funding base for your nonprofit. You’ll learn the full fundraising cycle—from identifying and cultivating potential donors, to making the ask, to building long-term donor relationships. Through practical discussions, shared experiences, and useful resources, participants will gain the skills and confidence needed for successful, mission-driven fundraising.

 

Youth Mental Health First Aid | Free (Elective) 

  • September 16 | Wednesday | 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM

Designed for adults who work with youth ages 12–18, this course provides tools to recognize and respond to early signs of mental health and substance use issues in young people. Participants learn about unique risk factors for youth, warning signs of common disorders, and how to support youth in crisis until professional help is available. With youth mental health concerns on the rise, this training equips adults to make a meaningful difference in schools, homes, and communities.

 

Nonprofit Financial Management | $85 (Core Class)

  • October 5, 12, 19 & 26 | Mondays | 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM

This essential course is designed to equip executives, staff, and board members with the knowledge and tools needed to strengthen their organization’s financial foundation. Participants will gain a clear understanding of key nonprofit financial concepts, including terminology, fiduciary duties, financial statements, audits, internal controls, and the strategic use of Form 990. A special bonus section on planned giving will also be included, offering insights into long-term fundraising strategies.

Book Chat Lunch & Learn – Building Momentum for Lasting Impact: Lessons from The Nonprofit Flywheel | $35 (Elective-Lunch Included)

  • Presenters: Suzanne Smith, Founder & CEO, Social Impact Architects & Charlie Glover, President & CEO, T.L.L. Temple Foundation

Join author and professor Suzanne Smith and Charlie Glover of the T.L.L. Temple Foundation for a conversation about what it takes to build healthy, high-performing nonprofits in a rapidly changing world. Drawing from the ideas from the recently-published book, The Nonprofit Flywheel, they will explore why some organizations build momentum while others struggle to gain traction, and share practical strategies for strengthening leadership, culture, governance, revenue, and long-term sustainability. Attendees will receive a complimentary digital companion before the event and leave with actionable ideas they can apply immediately.

Participants will explore the core components of an effective nonprofit marketing plan, with opportunities to assess and refine their organization’s current efforts. Through practical discussion and analysis, they will develop strategies for marketing, development, administration, database management, public relations, and more—all tailored to support the unique needs of nonprofit organizations.

 

Board Governance Essentials | $85 (Core Class)

  • March 18 & 25 | Thursdays | 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the roles, responsibilities, and expectations of nonprofit board members. Designed for current and prospective board members as well as nonprofit staff, the course explores key topics including board structure, founding documents, board-staff relationships, policies and procedures, effective meetings, and succession planning. Through eight focused units, participants will gain practical tools to strengthen governance and ensure organizational sustainability. Upon completion, participants are eligible to join the NPLC Board Bank, connecting them with board service opportunities.

 

Mental Health First Aid for Adults | Free (Elective) 

  • April 14 | Wednesday | 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM

  • Partners: Burke, AC NPLC, and Workforce & Continuing Education

This course teaches participants how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges in adults. You’ll learn how to provide initial support and connect individuals to appropriate care using a proven five-step action plan. Topics include depression, anxiety, trauma, psychosis, and substance use disorders. This training is ideal for anyone who wants to feel more confident helping a friend, colleague, or community member in crisis.

 

Human Resources Management | $85 (Core Class)

  • April 22 & 29 | Thursdays | 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM
  • 2 Classes / 4 hours each class
  • Instructor: John Riley, Chief Human Resources Officer, UBank, SHRM-CP

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the core principles and functions of human resources management. Topics include recruitment, selection, performance management, compensation, benefits, employee relations, and compliance with employment laws and regulations. Participants will also examine the roles and responsibilities of managers and the challenges of leading employees in a dynamic and evolving workplace. Ideal for those new to HR or seeking to strengthen their management skills.

 

Mastering the Message: Presentation & Speaking Essentials | $85 (Elective)

  • MAY 19 & 26 | Wednesdays | 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM

  • Instructor: Nancy Reynolds, Angelina College Speech Instructor

Mastering the Message helps nonprofit professionals develop the public speaking skills needed to communicate their mission with confidence and impact. Participants will learn how to organize and deliver presentations that engage audiences and inspire action.
