Representatives from BOM Bank of Lufkin arrived on the Angelina College campus on Monday with a huge donation to AC’s Roadrunner Market – a valuable resource providing food items to students free of charge.

Mark Lowery (Texas Regional President), Torri Adams (BOM Marketing Manager) and Cheryl Lawrence (BOM Loan Officer) – each an AC alumnus – delivered a large quantity of groceries, getting help with the unloading from several AC students and members of the Roadrunner men’s soccer team.

The BOM donation was yet another gesture in the organization’s long-time efforts to support Angelina College students.

“We found out about the Roadrunner Market through our past partnerships with Angelina College and through participating in AC orientations,” Adams said. ‘We toured the market with Daisy Brumley (Director of Student Affairs at AC), and we just felt like it’s a great thing they’re doing for students. We wanted to be a part of it.

“We’re part of the Texas Bankers Association, and they challenge banks each October to give back to our communities,” Adams added. “This is part of a state-wide initiative for our banks to donate to nonprofit organizations.”

Adams recalled her time as an AC student and the knowledge that not all students still live at home under family support.

“College students often struggle, and AC is known for having non-traditional students who are a little older and have other responsibilities,” Adams said. “There are moms working their way through the Nursing program, or other people who have their own struggles.

“This market allows them to come in for the food they might need just to help feed their families.”

Brumley said the facility, located inside the Student Center on the AC campus, has proven a tremendous help to students needing assistance.

“The Roadrunner Market actually reduces barriers many students may experience such as having food insecurities,” Brumley said, “so having support from local organizations in providing food for those students is a tremendous help for both our students and the AC community.

“BOM has always been a great supporter of Angelina College, and they reached to us about donating to a great cause. They know how much of a difference this makes in our students’ lives.”

Student Arieyonna Jenkins, a sophomore Psychology major, currently is a member of the Student Government Association at AC while also serving as the women’s basketball team manager. She said having access to the Roadrunner Market helps remove a lot of pressure from students like her.

“I can only speak for myself, but the Roadrunner Market has helped me with things like basic household struggles. I’m on campus quite a bit, and I’m providing for myself, so coming in here (to the Roadrunner Market) where they supply help for us is a big deal.

“Life is hard for a lot of students, so this is amazing that we have this available for us.”
