Hey, sports fans,

This will be our last Angelina College Athletics Weekly Update for the year, as our baseball team has wrapped up its season, and softball will do the same on Monday. We’ll be sending individual releases throughout the summer as necessary.

This past week saw both the baseball and softball teams recognize their sophomores on their respective “Sophomore Days” while finishing off their 2026 campaigns. The Lady Roadrunner softball team also paid tribute to a very special player during Sunday’s pre-game ceremonies.

In addition, Angelina College has released its dates for “Camp Roadrunner” scheduled to run through the summer. We’re adding all the information below.

We thank you for your continued support of our programs throughout this past season, and we can’t wait until next year.

We are AC, and we’re ready to Run ‘Em.

Here’s a quick rundown of the past week’s events, along with what’s coming up next:

Roadrunner Baseball Finishes with Winning Record

The Roadrunner baseball team came up just short of qualifying for a postseason berth, finishing in fifth place in the Region XIV North Zone.

However, first-year head coach Jon Phillips and first-year assistant coach Cody Crowder led the program to its first winning season in the past six years, finishing with an overall record of 25-20.

The ‘Runners dropped a slugfest at home this past Wednesday, falling 19-18 to Panola College in 10 innings. Cole Standley homered twice while driving in a pair of runs. Seth Sloan and Cole Babineaux also homered in the loss. Sloan, Babineaux, Colton Haas and Stefano Ramos finished with three RBI each.

In Saturday’s season-ending doubleheader at Panola College in Carthage, the ‘Runners split the twin bill, taking Game 1 by a 3-2 score before dropping the nightcap in a 12-9 final. In the opener, Standley homered twice to drive in all three AC runs. And in Game 2, Jon “Diesel” Gonzalez rocked a pair of homers and finished with four RBI in the loss.

Following Wednesday’s home finale, the team held its Sophomore Day ceremony, paying tribute to departing players Seth Sloan, Cole Standley, Dawson Byars, Jackson Todd, Connor Ficarra, Billy Theroux, David Wilson, Austin Gaskins, Koby Chesterton, Harrison Hankins, Aaron Martinez, Jacob Nations, Jack Braswell, Stefano Ramos, Avery Baber, Damon Anthony, Joseph Leonzi and Jon “Diesel” Gonzalez.

The Roadrunners finished their season with a 25-20, 13-17 record.

Lady Roadrunner Softball Honors Sophomores, Babbs

On Sunday, the Lady ‘Runners bid farewell to their sophomores in a “Sophomore Day” ceremony. Those players included Addison Babbs, Emily Zunker, Elizabeth Craig, Katherine Page, Jessie Sumpter, Mallory Dunn, Izzy Allen, Audrey Richardson, Breanne Calhoun and Angelina Arevalo.

In addition, Addison Babbs threw out the ceremonial first pitch during pre-game ceremonies. Babbs recently “rang the bell” after enduring treatments for ovarian cancer, and her presence provided inspiration to everyone attending the game.

Against San Jacinto, the Lady ‘Runners dropped the opener by a 10-2 score in five innings. Audrey Richardson drove in one run, and Ella Stephenson and Jessi Sumpter collected two hits each.

San Jac capped the sweep with a 10-0, five-inning win in the nightcap.

The Lady ‘Runners (5-17, 14-34) will close out their season with a home doubleheader on Monday, facing Galveston College at the Larry Phillips Family Sports Complex on the AC campus. Game time is set for 1 p.m.

Potential Schedule Changes:

As always in East Texas, the potential exists for schedule changes because of inclement weather. We try to put out the word as soon as we get it, but the quickest way to confirm game days and times is to visit the AC Athletics website (angelinaathletics.com) to view the most updated schedules. We’ll also send out word on social media (AC Athletics Facebook and Instagram, etc.), but the on-line schedule will always serve up the most recent updates.

Live Streaming Reminder:

All AC Athletics regular-season home games are live streamed on TSBN Sports (a free streaming service for fans), with most of the conference road games also available for streaming. (This does not include baseball and softball fall games, as those are not considered official games.)

Once TSBN posts its schedules, AC fans simply need to visit the AC Athletics web site, look at the scrolling schedule in the middle of the page and click the blue “Video” link.

TSBN also offers an app great for smart phones, devices and smart TVs. (You’ve GOT to see those matches and games on the big screen.)

Reminder II: Admission to ALL Angelina College Athletics sporting events is free, as is the TSBN live streaming. Any other links offering streaming are scams.

Reminder III: For the most current schedule updates (especially for potential weather issues) visit the official Angelina College Athletics website (angelinaathletics.com). Fans can also receive updates on the AC Athletics Facebook, X/Twitter, and Instagram pages.

Upcoming schedules:

Monday, May 4:
