Jorge is a returning sophomore and is on track to graduate with an Associate of Arts in General Studies in May of 2027. He is also a student-athlete on the Roadrunner Baseball team! Jorge is a catcher for the Roadrunners and came to Angelina College to pursue both his education and his love of baseball.

Q.What is your name, where are you from, and what are you studying?

A. My name is Jorge Arcia. I’m from Caracas, Venezuela, and I’m studying General Studies at Angelina College.

Q. If you could bring one thing from your home country to Angelina College to share with everyone, what would it be and why?

A. I would bring Venezuelan food—especially arepas—because I think everyone should try them!

Q. What made you decide to come to the United States for college?

A. I came to the United States because of baseball and also for the opportunity to get a good education.

Q. What is something you love about your home country that you wish everyone knew about?

I love the people in Venezuela. Everyone is really friendly, and we like to have a good time!

Q. What is your favorite thing about living in the United States so far?

Probably all of the opportunities I have here with both baseball and school.

Q. What is something you’re really good at that people might not know about you?

I would say baseball—especially catching.

Q. What do you hope to do after you graduate?

I want to keep playing baseball for as long as I can and hopefully work in sports in the future.

Q. Tell us one fun fact about yourself!

A fun fact about me is that I enjoy playing dominoes!

Q. What advice would you give another international student thinking about studying in the United States?

I would tell them not to be afraid of starting over. At first, everything can feel different—the language, the culture, and being away from home—but you have to give yourself time to adapt. Take advantage of every opportunity, meet new people, work hard, and remember why you came.

Be sure to come out this spring to cheer on Jorge and the Roadrunners as they take the field!
