April 8, 2024

Presenters: Laurie Charles and Antoinette Janson

Angelina College Nursing students on Monday attended a presentation from the Texas A&M University Health Center of Excellence in Forensic Nursing. The students learned of the expectations and requirements for becoming a forensic nurse. Presenters were TAMU representatives Laurie Charles, Clinical Professor, and Antoinette Janson, Assistant Director of Program Activities.

Charles said the presentation was an effort to explain forensic nursing and its vital function to the community.

“A forensic nurse is a specially trained nurse who helps care for and treat patients who have been impacted by some sort of violence, such as sexual assault, intimate partner violence, child abuse or other such instances,” Charles said.
