Degree: Associate of Arts with Field of Study in Social Work
This program offers students a comprehensive exploration of the philosophy, history, and practice of social work in the United States. Students analyze the political, economic, and cultural values shaping social welfare policies. They learn diverse methods and techniques for social work practice and examine how culture and social structure influence human behavior. Through a focus on contemporary issues, students develop the knowledge and skills needed for impactful contributions to American society.
Students who complete the Texas Core Curriculum and Field of Study in Social Work at any public two-year institution automatically qualify to receive an associate degree. They are also qualified to transfer their courses as a block applied directly to their selected major.
Career Outlook
Social Work occupations are expected to grow rapidly in the next several years, and will have large numbers of job openings. In Texas, the salaries for social workers are $38,000* and up.
